Tsum Valley, a hidden valley of happiness lies in the northern part of Gorkha district, Nepal at an altitude of 2,000 to 3,500m (6,600 to 11,500 ft). People consider the Tsum Valley a sacred valley with rich culture and history. The Local Tsum caste people follow a practice of non-killing called ‘Shyagya‘. Its meaning is non-violence, that is no animal killing is allowed. Buddhist Margi Tsum caste is following this practice since 1977 B.S. to till date. According to Tibetan Buddhist Scriptures, the Tsum Valley is called ‘Kimolung Beyul‘, which means ‘Valley of Peace‘ or ‘Happy Valley‘.

Overview

Tsum Valley was once a separate geographical area known as ‘Tsum Tso Chuksum‘. Its meaning is ‘thirteen provinces ruled as a single territory’. It is also known for its connection to ‘Ancient Himalayan Civilization‘. Tsum Valley has long history of Buddhism. The Buddhist saint Milarepa is believed to have meditated in the valley’s caves. There are several gumbas in Tsum Valley, including Mu Gompa, Gumba Longdang, and Dhephydonma Gompa. The local people worship Gautam Buddha, Guru Rinpoche, and other Bodhisattavas. The valley is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Himalayan Thar and Blue Sheep. Lush forests, rolling hills, waterfalls, and rivers surround Tsum Valley. It offers views of the Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and other snow-capped mountains.
