They later rolled back this restriction in the early 90s after the restoration of democracy in the country.

From the aspect of natives, the trail acquaints you with two natives of this area—Nubri and Tsum. Interestingly, these two ethnic domains are divided by the branching of the river in the place called Chhikur.

Nubri has been visited often since the country opened for tourism in 1950. Whereas, Tsum valley is less visited as a result these ethnic groups are able to retain much of its uniqueness—culture, art, and traditions.

The central part of the region exposes you with Gurungs. The ethnic group—who are famous for their valor throughout the globe. Similarly, the part of the area which shares a border with Tibet inhabits akin to Sherpa group called Bhutias. They are the group who follow the culture and traditions practiced in Tibet. The monasteries, mane walls and chortens seen here depict Tibetan art and architecture along with the influence of Tibetan Buddhism.

This region with natural diversity is protected by the Manaslu Conservation Area. It is home to 33 mammals such as snow leopard, blue sheep, grey wolf, musk deer and red pandas. If you are lucky enough, then you are likely to spot some of these mammals while on this trek.

A recent study found more than 110 species of birds—golden eagle, blood, crimson horned pheasant, etc.—over 10 butterflies, and 3 reptiles in this conservation area.

One of the best parts of this trek is Larkya La Pass which is at an altitude of 5,160m. It is the highest point of the trek. Upon reaching at the top of the pass, you will get heart capturing view of Annapurna II (7,937m), Himlung (7,126m), and CheoHimal (6,812m). The view is simply MAJESTIC!

Last but not least, the construction of a metal path at Yaru Bagar and the increasing number of teahouses on the Manaslu Circuit trail are transforming the site. It is gradually changing from a difficult trek site into a luxury trek destination.
