Explore the Upper Mustang Trek route to Mustang Valley, the mystic land that was once a part of Tibetan kingdom and has an average altitude of 4000m. Mustang valley resembles the Tibetan plateau and terrain due to the geographical proximity along with the cultural influence of Tibetan-Buddhism. A land said to be “barren as a dead deer”, Mustang region blends beauty and happiness with hardship. Officially opened for trekking in 1992, Mustang trek takes you to the last forbidden land of extensive barren valleys, yak caravans, eroded canyons, colorful valley and whitewashed houses overlooked by the majestic Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Tukuche, unspoiled culture since centuries and caves high in the hills. Still highly restricted part of Nepal, this medieval themed land displays the ancient heritages, Buddhist chortens, diverse flora and fauna and flamboyant cultural marvel of Teji Festival. The highlight of Upper Mustang Trek is the 5 storied and 9 cornered Lo-Manthang Palace, the home to the King of Mustang, who grants an audience upon request. Despite Nepal being a republic nation and the title of King being revoked by the government, the ex-king receives same honor from the people of Mustang. In this trek witness the beautiful apple orchards, red-walled monastery or Thubchen Gompa in the heart of the town, locals extracting wools from the sheep, harvesting of wheat and barley and the bizarre ancient funeral rites. Requiring special permit from government and visited by few tourists annually, take the Upper Mustang Trek to experience this aloof yet marvelous region situated to the northwest of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif.

Upper Mustang Trek gets you the feel of stepping back in time to the ancient time period. After cultural excursion in the Kathmandu valley, we fly over to Jomsom only to witness the breathtaking view of some of the World’s tallest snow peaks. Kagbeni (2810m) marks the entry point to the mystical and enchanting land of Upper Mustang, reached after trek to it. It has the landscape of Himalayan deserts and incomparable scenic beauty often referred analogously as a slice of heaven. Further up the route through settlements of Chele, Ghiling, Ghami and Charang we reach to the walled city of Lo-Manthang (3810m). We wander around the traditional villages, monasteries and the palace of King of Mustang or the Mustangi Raja, as known locally and hike to the Choser or Namgyal monasteries to explore the traditional Tibetan-Buddhist culture. If it happens to be around Tiji Festival, the traditional celebration gives much needed soul warming pleasure to the trekkers. We trail back to Jomsom through the out-of-the-ordinary Kagbeni and fly back to Pokhara for excursion around the scenic valley and then to Kathmandu marking the end of this trekking experience.

Explore the less visited exotic landscape of ancient and once forbidden land of Mustang through the Upper Mustang Trek of Luxury Holiday Trek. This trans-Himalayan region exhilarates the visitors as always with its fantastic alpine desert mountain scenery and cultural heritages. Join this Trek to get the rare privilege of being to the forbidden kingdom!
